Brill Bulletin: My Style

Last week we had the pleasure of being featured in NOW Magazine’s My Style column thanks to expert snapper, Stefania Yarhi.

The Brill Team

We decided to turn the tables and switch perspectives, posing the questions to Stefania.

Stefania Yarhi

1. Style to me is who you want to be that day. It’s dressing to make yourself feel good. It’s a selfish art that’s shared.

2. Essentially classic, if in my mind’s eye the ensemble makes me feel like I’m on the Côte d’Azur or living la dolce vita in Italy I’m happy. Sprinkle in army fatigue green, because well, it compliments the olive skin, and generally that’s me.

3. I feel naked without: earrings.

4. My top three Toronto loves are (in order of like):

  • Kensington Market
  • St. Lawrence
  • Baldwin St.

Cheers,

The Brill Team

Fashion Bulletin: Danier for Blake McGrath

So You Think You Can Dance judge and celebrity choreographer Blake McGrath burst onto to scene in a fresh new way this year with the debut of his first recorded album, Time to Move. For the video of his second single, Relax, McGrath looked to iconic Canadian leather brand, Danier, to create two custom looks specially for the shoot.

Take a peek at the creative sketches by Danier’s in-house design team:

Stay tuned next week as we unveil the final product including a behind-the-scenes look at the video.

On Our Radar: Delhi 2 Dublin

What’s on Brill’s playlist right now?

Delhi 2 Dublin, remember the name – you’ll be hearing it again soon. Comprised of five members, this Vancouver-based group boasts a sound that is as unique as they are. A mash-up of Bhangra, Celtic, Dub Reggae and Electronica, their new song ‘Tommy’ is on high rotation at the Brill Building.

One of our favourite stylists, Tricia Campbell-Hall, was the talent behind the image of the video. We love the raw black and white street style vibe.

Meet Shelby: Diary of a Brill Intern

After four years of studying Media, Information and Technoculture at the University of Western Ontario I developed a love for writing and a desire to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Three internships and a post-graduate degree later, I was able to find a way to fuse those interests. I applied to Brill Communications hoping to learn more about public relations.

I was thrilled when I was offered the position, especially after meeting the wonderful ladies that work at Brill. I have only been here for three weeks, but I have already gotten a feel for what PR is all about. Thanks to TIFF, my first few weeks have been filled with excitement, putting the daily tasks on hold for a while.

Sunday night at the Danier x Raphael Mazzucco cocktail party I was introduced to the world of events. From stuffing goodie bags and pulling clothes to finalizing the guest list and booking models, I got to see it all from start to finish.

I headed over to the IT Lounge at NKPR Monday morning and spent the next three days helping out Anna from Esprit. The IT Lounge is celebrity gifting suite supporting Artists for Peace and Justice, a charity dedicated to helping the children of Haiti. While everyone who came by was so sweet and appreciative, the highlight of the week was definitely meeting Ed Norton!

While I am sad for TIFF to be over, I am looking forward to some quiet time before Fashion Week begins!

Cheers,

Toronto’s Chefs Celebrate: Josephson Opticians’ 75th Anniversary

This October marks the 75th anniversary of Josephson Opticians, a very special occasion for Dr. Josh Josephson, family, and friends. To commemorate the milestone Josephson will present a series of group portraits by noted photographer, Caitlin Cronenberg. The series highlights Toronto’s community of cultural mavens, icons, and longtime clients in a trio of photographs to be released over the next few months.

First up: Toronto’s most celebrated chefs. This historical portrait brought together masters of cuisine for an unexpected photo shoot (seen in the October issue of Toronto Life).

Seated with Josh Josephson: Joe Bersani, David Lee, Marc Thuet, Anthony Rose, Jamie Kennedy, Martin Kouprie, Claudio Aprile, Didier Leroy, Susur Lee,                     J.P. Challet, Leo Spralja, Chris McDonald.

Friends Mark McEwan and Massimo Capra, who were unable to make it, were truly missed.

Stay tuned as we unveil the remainder of the series.

Cheers,

The Brill Team
