Who’s blogging across the Country? – Meet Noelly from miss SLY

Meet Noëlly Sam, the incredibly stylish mastermind behind one of our favorite fashion blogs miss SLY!™.  She’s been a fixture on Canada’s fashion scene for awhile now, and we here at Brill are happy to call her a friend as well.

Noelly Sam

What do you do for a living? Or is blogging your full time gig?

Blogging started as a hobby 2 years ago, and is now transitioning into a full time occupation, which is presenting me with opportunities I couldn’t have envisioned.

Tell us a little bit about miss SLY!™?

miss SLY!™ is a Fashion & Arts Blogzine, that covers and promotes Canadians and international talents. What started as a passion for writing about things I admired the most is now a platform for emerging artists, to be heard and talked about.

miss SLY!™ now counts contributors from Canada, the US, Europe and South Africa, which makes our content that much more exciting and diverse.

From covering Fashion weeks, promoting local talents to igniting Fashion debates online (via @FashionUnfold) miss SLY!™ is turning into a modern advocate of Fashion and Arts, and a source of inspiration for our readers.ëë

How did you get into blogging?

I’d say that Blogging got into me instead. Prior to miss SLY!™ I was a communications manager for a major Telecom firm, and didn’t know a lot about blogging. I have always been writing and with the internet nowadays, I just took my writing online.

Where do you find your inspiration for blog posts?

I have a very vivid imagination and I am very observant, so I am always alert for the “spark”. It could be a tweet, a conversation, a quote, an image, a garment, anything that triggers an emotion or a message I feel strongly about, will most likely end up in a post.

What are some of your favorite fashion/beauty blogs?

I have a preference for online magazines and style blogs, depending on what I am looking for. But some staples definitely include Street Etiquette, The Sartorialist, http://lookbook.nu/, FRAME Magazine, Industrie Magazine just to name a few.

Who is your favorite Canadian designer? Why?

It’s hard to choose just one; Canada has so many underrated designers.

I’d say Greta Constantine for their bold and edgy wearable Fashion, Denis Gagnon because he is extremely creative and doesn’t play by the rules and Kim Newport Mimran (PINK TARTAN) because she makes classic and elegant clothes for the modern woman.

What are some of your favorite trends for summer?

Rompers, they keep you stylish and breathing in scorching heats, and nude heels because they go with just about everything.

What are you beauty must haves for summer?

Erno Laslo Antioxidant Moisture Complex SPF 15, it’s an Oil-free formula perfect for the summer plus it helps prevent environmental skin damage. And for the makeup, I keep it simple with black pencil liner, voluminous mascara and red lipstick.

We often do posts outlining “what’s in our bag”  If we were to look inside yours what would we find?

Definitely a Fashion Magazine, today it’s French Magazine Jalouse, business/bank cards, iTouch, a note book + pen, a mirror, my red lipstick, Dior Hypnotic Poison, my set of keys, sunglasses and of course my digital camera.

What's in her bag?

If you had to chose one item from your closet that you couldn’t live without what would it be?

It would be one of my many little back dresses; you can never go wrong with one.

Given the choice to have dinner with one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

That’s a good one. Probably Diana Vreeland, she was a true character. Style, confidence, elegance and strength, a real tastemaker and Fashion Icon I would have loved to meet.

When you’re not blogging, what are some of your favorite things to do in your city?

I just moved to Montreal, so I am enjoying everything the city has to offer. Whenever I am free, I head to the Old Port, where there is a multitude of great cafés, restaurants, lounges, fancy shops and Art Galleries. There is so much to do in Montreal, I am constantly discovering and loving it.

Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us Noëlly!!  You can follow her on twitter @MissSLY.

Until next time

Diary of an Intern: Sadly it’s time to say goodbye to Arantxa

Audrey Hepburn was quoted saying “if you work very hard and are a nice person, amazing things will happen to you”. I’d say that working hard and being personable are key qualities that describe the ladies at Brill.  I would also say that this is the most important lesson I could have learnt and one that I will always keep with me.

As my time at Brill comes to an end I am sad to leave, especially after a summer filled with so many fun events as well as meeting and working with so many new and talented people. I will not forget my time here, I have grown and learnt so much and this experience has been nurturing as well as rewarding.  I have learnt some very valuable lessons; they are simple and well – known. I have also observed that it is the little things that count, the extra time and care put into presentation, and appearance as well as the dedication it takes to pull off an event. I would say that the thing I enjoyed the most at Brill was everyday in the office, the days were filled with lots of action, drop ins and laughs. Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for making my time here so enjoyable, for teaching me so much and for the opportunity to explore the world of PR. I’m so glad that I got to work with all of you.

I hope that I get the chance to work with Brill again as I thoroughly enjoyed every minute here!

Cheers to a great year ahead, and I hope to see you soon!

:)

Ohh la la!!

Last week the Brill Team had the pleasure of being involved in the fourth annual Lingerie Francaise fashion show, which was held in the very cool (in more ways than one) Fermenting Cellar located in the Distillery District.  This years show featured Fall Winter 2011 and Spring Summer 2012 looks from Parisian Lingerie companies; Lejaby, Empreinte, Gerbe, Simon Perele, and Princess tam tam.

This is one of our favorite shows to work on, and this year was no exception.  Check out some of the great shots from the night below:
