What was a chant for Oklahoma City fans watching the NBA Finals last night, has now become a mission for all Torontonians. With temperatures this week expected to trump those of Miami, L.A., Honolulu and Bahamas, and break heat records untouched for more than twenty years, everyone in our lovely city is looking to beat the heat. So from the comfort of our air-conditioned office, the Brill ladies got talking about tips and places to go to do just that.
For a quick, easy and delicious solution to the sweltering heat, you can’t go wrong with some good ol’ ice cream. We love The Big Chill on Manning & College for its retro décor and countless satisfying options, including (and coming highly recommended) their banana splits. It may only be a temporary solution to our heat woes, but we’re not opposed to ordering seconds.
While we wouldn’t suggest taking a dip in the lake, a rooftop pool is oh-so-chic and not as hard to come by in the city as you may think. The Thompson Hotel, already known for its breathtaking views, has a rooftop infinity pool boasting the same visual appeals. This option is restricted to guests so what to do if you don’t own an invisibility cloak or aren’t looking to spend the night? The Sheraton and Four Seasons offer affordable day passes ($30 and $65) to their outdoor pools including plenty of space to lounge, long hours of operation and other amenities that will flood your mind with memories of your last vacation.
Regardless of your plans to (try) and beat the heat, we all swear by Mavea filtered water as an essential to bring along for any plans to keep hydrated – face it, you don’t want to be that person who passes out on the subway. Victoria’s Secret Pro Airbrush FX Face Primer is also a MUST have on days like today. It’s oil-free, will help to keep shine at bay, has spf protection and will keep your make-up from turning into abstract art on your face. And hey, if worst comes to worse, take a hint from your childhood days and take a skip through a sprinkler.
